Focusing on young people from London and Rio aged between 16-25, this collaborative participatory action research project uses participatory video training, a film competition and a public film screening to sensitise youths to the issues of sustainable food and answer the following research questions:

  1. How do urban young people in London and Rio envision fair and sustainable food futures?
  2. Based in an urban context, how do they conceptualise notions of food sovereignty and food justice?
  3. How useful is participatory video as a methodology to explore this?
  4. Which further participatory tools, such as a film competition, can help so that young people’s voices are heard by policy makers, the media and general public?

Our aim was to run the workshops in parallel in 2015 but because of funding delays in Brazil we have so far completed the London workshop and look forward to the Rio workshop in 2016.
